Trauma Informed Clinical Practice

Dr. Monroe is a licensed clinical social worker with a wide range of experience providing therapeutic services across various settings using a trauma-informed lens. More specifically, she has provided specialized care and oversight in the nonprofit arena, with individuals and families enduring major life transitions such as loss, altering health disparities, and navigating postpartum. Dr. Monroe has extensive experience supporting individuals and groups in a high-acuity Baker Act facility while educating families on the scope of mental health needs. As a private practice clinician, she has maintained a commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment for those with a history of complex stress or trauma.

Dr. Monroe led the charge in expanding the prevention, intervention, and response to sexual abuse in a detention setting. This included implementing national standards, collecting data, enhanced training and education for staff, and individuals in custody. She worked diligently with forging professional relationships with community-based stakeholders and law enforcement officers to ensure that comprehensive wraparound was accessible.

Commitment to Trauma-Informed Education

Over the span of her career, Dr. Monroe has provided training on topics such as counseling techniques, ethical boundaries, and recognizing mental health symptoms for non-clinical staff. Additional training offered has included suicide prevention and sexual abuse responses for correctional staff.

As the Director of the Office of Professional and Clinical Practice and Assistant Professor, Dr. Monroe is dedicated to nurturing and enhancing the educational experiences of future social workers while fostering an inclusive learning environment.

Community Engagement

Dr. Monroe’s career is embedded in public service through supporting community-based activities and spearheading initiatives to bring awareness to concerns impacting vulnerable populations. She believes in the core principles of the social work profession and has enjoyed volunteering and mentoring children from marginalized backgrounds. As a proud two-time alumna of Barry University, she is continuing her commitment to community involvement through engaging social work agencies and contributing to the advancement of social work students.
